LET’S SUMMARIZE BRUSHING:
brushing your extensions isn’t just about taking care of the ends of your hair (although that’s important, too)
Start by holding your hair near the bonds of your extensions. Begin by brushing the ends of your hair. Brush through the ends, working your way up towards the scalp and detangling as you go.
After the ends of your hair are detangled, brush at the scalp, and directly over the attachments. Yes, you must brush directly over the attachments of your extensions! This is not the case for all methods of extensions, however - so please note that this applies specifically to Great Lengths fusion extensions.
Brush directly over the attachments, at the scalp, at least twice per day.
WHY IS BRUSHING SO IMPORTANT?
Your natural hair will always continue to shed, regardless of the method of hair extensions you are wearing. While you are wearing Great Lengths, your naturally shedding hair will remain inside of the attachment of your hair extensions. It has nowhere to go while your extensions are being worn.
Because our natural hair will always continue to shed, we must control the naturally shedding hair while wearing Great Lengths.
We control the naturally shedding hair by brushing directly over the attachments of your hair extensions on a frequent and regular basis.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T BRUSH?
When extensions are not properly brushed, the shedding hair around the bonds of your hair extensions sticks together, creating tangling and knotting directly at the attachment.
Allowing for the hair to tangle can compromise not only your natural hair, but can decrease the lifespan of your extensions as well. Matting and tangling only occur when extensions are not properly brushed. Nearly all of the horror stories we see about hair extensions being damaging start with either improper application, or come from lack of brushing.
We want to change the narrative about hair extensions and it is so important for your practitioner to teach you how to best care for your extensions!
Brushing is the only maintenance that is required to wear Great Lengths and it’s incredibly important to understand the ins and outs of brushing hair extensions. It’s super important that you FEEL confident in brushing your hair extensions because your hair will thank you in the long run.
